Christmas morning on the Potomac near Shepherdstown

Robert H. Clark, who works for the National Park Service, posts some beautiful landscape and scenery pictures on his photography blog. I thought I'd share a recent shot taken of the Potomac River at Shepherdstown on Christmas morning. Isn't it beautiful?

Check out the West Virginia section of his gallery and you'll see some lovely photographs of the local area. I follow his blog on Google Reader so that I can always see his most recent work. Thanks, Bob!!

New Year's Eve Weekend at the Inn

If you'd like to enjoy a low-key, homey New Year's Eve this year, consider joining us at the Inn. We'll have a sparkling beverage toast and some hors d'ouevres in front of the fire while we watch the ball drop on Friday night. Breakfast on Saturday morning will be more of a brunch affair, starting at 9:30 and lasting until 11:30 so everyone can sleep a little later after ushering in the New Year. Most of our favorite restaurants in Shepherdstown will be open on New Year's Day for dinner so you can enjoy a leisurely Saturday evening around town - we can help you make reservations. Holiday decorations will remain up at the Inn until after the weekend.

Every two-night reservation which falls on New Year's Eve will receive a complimentary box of locally-made DeFluri's chocolates in the room - what better way to start 2011 than with some delicious chocolate treats. We don't often get the whole weekend to celebrate the occasion, but we do this year! Please join us...

Christmas in Shepherdstown and Harpers Ferry

19 shopping days until Christmas, and the stores in Shepherdstown are well-stocked for gift-giving with one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry, locally-roasted coffee, and adorable shoes and clothes for all ages. The weekend of December 10th features a Saturday evening and Sunday matinee of the Nutcracker Ballet, performed at the Frank Center by the Shepherdstown School of Music and Dance. The Christmas Bazaar will also be open at the War Memorial Building on German Street on Saturday.

Old Tyme Christmas
continues at Harpers Ferry on Dec. 11 and 12, with music, puppets, and a strolling Santa and Mrs. Clause. It's an easy drive from Shepherdstown! We've got a few rooms open at the Inn, where it's a short walk to dinner and shopping and the fire will be lit for evening relaxing with a cup of hot tea or cocoa. Happy Holidays -
